Cholesterol Testing

Home cholesterol tests are very easy to use and can determine the cholesterol level in our bodies. The test is very accurate however it is not a replacement for going to your family doctor and having your cholesterol tested. The cholesterol test that your doctor administers determines if your cholesterol level is high or normal.

When the cholesterol level is normal we are in good health but if it is high we need medication to bring the level within normal range.
Cholesterol is a fatty substance which the liver manufactures. It is a natural substance that is present in every part of our body. Cholesterol is necessary for creating hormones such as testosterone, adrenaline and to produce bile acids. Cholesterol can also be found in various animal foods.

Cholesterol is not the problem however certain levels of cholesterol can be. There are two types of cholesterol found in our bodies, LDL and HD. LDL distributes cholesterol from the liver to the rest of our body. HDL removes cholesterol from our blood taking it back to the liver.

The reason for a cholesterol test is that sometimes LD will deposit cholesterol into the arteries which is called plaque. Plaque can clog arteries causing various health issues including heart disease and high blood pressure. A cholesterol tests is able to determine the LDL level and how it is affecting the rest of the body. Some people suffer from chronic high cholesterol and are put on cholesterol medication.
You should get your cholesterol tested as often your doctor recommends.
